Base Location: Tameside Local Studies and Archives Centre, Cotton Street East, Ashton-Under-Lyne, OL6 7BY

The Role
 
As the Senior Library Assistant at Tameside Local Studies & Archives, you will be responsible for the provision of front line library services including counter duties, managing and maintaining the in-house shop, dealing with enquiries and assisting members of the public in using our resources. You may also be required to assist in the provision of books and archives, as well as our online and surrogate resources in the searchroom.
 
You will facilitate council staff and contractors to enable maintenance of the building and facilities, and you will undertake health and safety checks and procedures to ensure the best possible service.
 
The actual hours of work are variable within the period 08.30 am to 5.30pm Tuesday to Thursday and 9.00am to 1.30pm Saturday. 
 
About You
 
You will have good communication skills and an ability to interact with customers. You will also have the ability to converse at ease with service users/customers and provide advice. You will ideally have previous experience of dealing with the public.
 
You should be well organised, flexible, self motivated, and have confidence in dealing with people. You must be I.T. literate and familiarity with the Microsoft Office suite is also essential. You will be required to take payment for our stock and services using our till system.
